Xaverio Ballester nos visitó para dictar una charla y presentar El enigma del indoeuropeo, libro que ha publicado con la ULPGC.
El viernes 10 de noviembre de 2023, el profesor Xaverio Ballester, catedrático de Filología Latina de la Universidad de Valencia, impartió una conferencia sobre “La primacía de la semántica” a los estudiantes del GLELH.
A continuación, el profesor Ballester presentó su libro El enigma del indoeuropeo, editado por el Servicio de Publicaciones y Difusión Científica de la ULPGC, acto que contó con la presidencia del vicerrector de Cultura.

The Primacy of Semantics
Xaverio Ballester visited us to give a talk and present The Enigma of the Indo-European, a book he has published with the ULPGC.
On Friday, November 10, 2023, the teacher Xaverio Ballester, Professor of Latin Philology at the University of Valencia, gave a lecture on «The primacy of semantics» to GLELH students.
Then, Professor Ballester presented his book The Enigma of the Indo-European, edited by the Publications and Scientific Dissemination Service of the ULPGC, act that counted on the presidency of the vice-rector of Culture.
El viernes 2 de mayo pasado, en el IES Santiago Santana, ante un nutrido grupo de alumnos y con la presencia de la vicedirectora del centro, Ángela López Hernández, y la tutora del grupo D de 1º de la ESO, Cirenia Martín Henríquez, nuestra decana y nuestro secretario procedieron a entregar el primer premio del concurso de lemas que se celebró el pasado 14 de abril y del que ya dimos amplia cobertura.
La ganadora, que recibió un diploma acreditativo y una camiseta con su lema, fue Adriana Ruiz Vega, a quien auguramos un gran futuro en el mundo de las palabras. Sabe que en nuestra facultad tiene las puertas abiertas por si quiere seguir ese apasionante camino.

Giving prizes, Which Is Gerund (and II)
Last Friday, May 2, at the IES Santiago Santana, in front of a large group of students and with the presence of the vice-director of the center, Ángela López Hernández, and the tutor of group D of 1st of the ESO, Cirenia Martín Henríquez, our dean and our secretary proceeded to give the first prize of the slogan contest that was held on April 14 and of which we already gave wide coverage.
The winner, who received a diploma and a shirt with her motto, was Adriana Ruiz Vega, to whom we augur a great future in the world of words. She knows our faculty has its doors open if she wants to follow that exciting path.
Una charla inspiradora de parte de María Reinaldos y una visita inolvidable a Aldeas Infantiles.
María Reinaldos, directora de Hogares de Aldeas Infantiles, impartió una charla en el marco del proyecto If you can dream it, you can achieve it!, que propone la creación de un libro de cuentos motivacionales por parte del alumnado de Inglés I del Grado en Lenguas Modernas en colaboración con niños y adolescentes de Aldeas Infantiles.
Profesorado y alumnado de la asignatura Inglés I visitaron a los Hogares de Aldeas Infantiles para hacer una actividad con los niños dentro del marco del proyecto (se recogieron los dibujos de la foto).

An inspiring talk by Maria Reinaldos and an unforgettable visit to Aldeas Infantiles.
Maria Reinaldos, director of Hogares de Aldeas Infantiles, gave a talk in the framework of the project If you can dream it, you can achieve it! , which proposes the creation of a book of motivational stories by the students of English I of the Degree in Modern Languages in collaboration with children and teenagers of Aldeas Infantiles.
Teachers and students of the subject English I visited Hogares de Aldeas Infantiles to do an activity with the children within the framework of the project (the drawings in the photo were collected).

La facultad recibió este viernes la visita del Instituto Confucio con motivo del Medio Otoño. Liu Jiandong, su director, vino acompañado por profesoras ataviadas con trajes tradicionales para la ocasión y quizás hubo quien se acordó de aquel poema infantil sobre la fiesta:
La Festividad del Medio Otoño es la segunda fiesta más importante del calendario chino tras la Fiesta de la Primavera. Se celebra cada año con la llegada de la octava luna llena del calendario lunar. Es una ocasión para reunirse con amigos y familiares, compartir momentos de alegría por una abundante cosecha, y celebrar las bonanzas presentes y futuras. El Instituto Confucio en la ULPGC, aprovechando esta fecha tan señalada, quiere acercar las bondades de esta festividad y sus buenos deseos a todos los miembros de la comunidad universitaria, y para ello prevé recorrer el viernes 29 de septiembre, todos los campus universitarios de Gran Canaria para saludar al estudiantado y al profesorado y al personal de administración y servicios, y darles a conocer esta fiesta de especial significado para el pueblo chino, y como no, también llevarles un trocito de pastel de luna para endulzar ese instante.

Mooncakes for the Mid-Autumn Festival
The faculty received this Friday the visit of the Confucius Institute on the occasion of Mid-Autumn. Liu Jiandong, its director, came accompanied by teachers dressed in traditional costumes for the occasion and perhaps some people remembered that children’s poem about the party:
The Mid-Autumn Festival is the second most important festival of the Chinese calendar after the Spring Festival. It is celebrated every year with the arrival of the eighth full moon of the lunar calendar. It is an occasion to gather with friends and family, share moments of joy for an abundant harvest, and celebrate present and future prosperity. The Confucius Institute in the ULPGC, taking advantage of this important date, wants to bring the benefits of this holiday and its good wishes to all members of the university community, and for this purpose it plans to travel on Friday, September 29, all the university campuses in Gran Canaria to greet the students and the teaching staff and the administration and services staff, and to introduce them to this festival of special significance for the Chinese people, and of course, also bring them a piece of mooncake to sweeten that instant.
Quién lo iba a decir: ya empezamos un nuevo curso e hicimos lo que se hace en estos casos: agasajar a quienes por primera vez llegan a nuestras aulas. El equipo decanal y quienes se responsabilizan de que todo en la Universidad vaya sobre ruedas (la administración y la Biblioteca; responsables de grados y de tutorías) explicaron en dos sesiones de mañana y tarde los entresijos de la vida universitaria en el edificio de Humanidades.
Gracias por estar aquí y esperamos que su trayectoria académica sea grata y provechosa. No se olviden que la vida universitaria no es solo el estudio y la asistencia a las clases. Aprovechen el tiempo todo lo que puedan porque esta experiencia solo se vive una vez.

Welcome Days for Degree Students
Who was going to say it: we already started a new academic year and we did what is done in these cases: to entertain those who first arrive in our classrooms. The dean’s team and those responsible for everything at the University go smoothly (the administration and the Library; responsible for degrees and tutorials) explained in two morning and afternoon sessions the intricacies of university life in the Humanities building.
Thank you for being here and we hope your academic career will be pleasant and profitable. Do not forget that university life is not only study and attendance at classes. Make the most of your time because this experience is only experienced once.
La profesora de nuestra Facultad, Lili Wang, ejerció de tutora (y de cicerone, por supuesto) del grupo de campamento de verano en SISU (Shanghai International Studies University), del 31 de julio al 25 de agosto de 2023. Como beneficiarios de las becas 2023 en SISU del Ministerio de Educación de China, había siete estudiantes de la ULPGC, seis de nuestra Facultad, y otra profesora de la Facultad.

The Faculty, Summer Camp in Shanghai
Our Faculty professor, Lili Wang, served as a tutor (and, of course) of the summer camp group at SISU (Shanghai International Studies University), from July 31 to August 25, 2023. As beneficiaries of the 2023 scholarships in SISU of the Chinese Ministry of Education, there were seven students of the ULPGC, six of our Faculty, and another professor of the Faculty.
Anita Buczek-Zawila, profesora de la Pedagogical University of Krakow, Polonia, anduvo por nuestras aulas el 27 de abril y trató aspectos de pronunciación y estrategias de comunicación a estudiantes del Grado en Lenguas Modernas.
El pasado 26 de abril dos docentes de nuestra Facultad, Noemí Padilla Santana y Antonio Becerra Bolaños, visitaron este soleado y agradable centro de Secundaria para hablar de edición y literatura.
«Prácticas fotográficas en la era móvil» es el título del taller que pudieron disfrutar, los pasados 18 y 19 de abril, los alumnos de la materia Otros medios audiovisuales del Máster en Cultura Audiovisual y Literaria de nuestra Facultad.
Orgullo y satisfacción es lo que sentimos de recibir al alumnado de ESO y Bachillerato que nos visitará en nuestra casa. Hemos preparado diversas actividades que cuentan con profesores y estudiantes.
